UCLA is world-renowned for its beautiful architecture and scenery.
The campus is informally divided into North and South campuses, both located in the eastern half of the university grounds. The North Campus, the original campus center, is famous for its Italian Renaissance architecture, including the Powell Library, which has become a popular filming location for Hollywood movies. This is the center of the arts, humanities, social sciences, law, and economics. At the heart of the North Campus is Dixon Plaza, surrounded by oak trees. This plaza has appeared in films. The South Campus buildings are newer and have a distinctly different style from the North Campus. It is the center of the natural sciences: physics, biological sciences, mathematics, and engineering. Medicine and its affiliated buildings are not considered part of either the South or North Campus.
The central campus contains student council buildings, athletic facilities, and other structures. Due to the increasing student population in recent years, there has been new construction throughout the campus, including expansions to departments such as life sciences and engineering.
About 1.6 kilometers south of the campus, UCLA also has an office building. Most off-campus administrative offices, including the Chancellor’s office, are located there.
Although there are underground and above-ground parking facilities on campus, the number of parking spaces is still insufficient. The university offers discounted parking to staff and students from afar and encourages students living within five miles of the university to use public transportation.
